Miriam Skoch is a professional tennis player from the Czech Republic, known for her success on the ITF Circuit, where she has claimed seven singles titles and nine doubles titles. Her career-high singles ranking reached world No. 256 on July 2, 2018.
Born on April 11, 1997, in Most, Czech Republic, Miriam Skoch (nee Miriam Kolodziejova) made her mark early in her career by winning two prestigious junior doubles titles alongside compatriot Marketa Vondrousova. The duo triumphed at the Australian Open and the French Open, defeating Katharina Hobgarski and Greet Minnen in Melbourne and Caroline Dolehide and Katerina Stewart in Paris. In her singles junior career, she also achieved a semi-final appearance at the European Junior Championships in 2015.
Miriam Skoch’s professional journey began in November 2014 at the W15 Heraklion tournament in Greece, where she reached the semi-finals. The following year, she split her time between junior events and the ITF Circuit, with a notable performance at the $10,000 Zielona Gora tournament in Poland, where she reached the semi-finals.
In 2016, Miriam Skoch reached her first ITF final at the $10,000 Poertschach event in Austria but fell short against Lenka Juríková. Later that year, she made another final appearance at the $15,000 Prague event but was defeated by Petra Krejsová. Her consistent performances paid off when she won her first ITF title at the $15,000 Brno tournament in September. She concluded the year with two additional runner-up finishes.
The momentum continued in 2017 as Miriam Skoch captured three ITF titles. She emerged victorious at the $15,000 events in Prague, Milovice, and Jablonec nad Nisou, all hosted in her home country.
In 2018, she claimed her first W25-level title at the $25,000 Klosters tournament in Switzerland. That year also saw her reach three ITF finals: $15,000 Antalya in Turkey, $25,000 Óbidos in Portugal, and $25,000 Koksijde in Belgium.
Unfortunately, her 2019 season was heavily disrupted due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. She returned to action in December of that year and reached the final of the $15,000 Jablonec nad Nisou event but was narrowly defeated by Elena Malygina.
Miriam Skoch made her WTA Tour debut in 2020 after receiving a wildcard for the WTA 125 Prague Open. She performed admirably, advancing to the third round before being stopped by Renata Zarazúa.
Her success continued in 2021 with a title win at the $25,000 Otočec tournament in Slovenia. Additionally, she was a runner-up at two ITF events: $25,000 Radom in Poland and $15,000 Antalya in Turkey.
Miriam Skoch’s career demonstrates resilience and a steady climb through the ranks of professional tennis. Teaming up with Anastasia Dețiuc, she secured her first WTA Tour doubles title during the 2022 Emilia-Romagna Open. Their impressive performance culminated in a victory over seasoned opponents Arantxa Rus and Tamara Zidansek in the final match of the tournament.
Her breakthrough at Grand Slam events began at the 2023 Australian Open, where she made her major debut in doubles alongside Marketa Vondrousova. The pair advanced to the third round, showcasing promising synergy on the court. A similar achievement followed at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships; however, due to unforeseen circumstances, their campaign ended prematurely as the duo had to withdraw during the third round.
Continuing her success in doubles, she partnered with Anna Siskova to claim the title at the 2024 WTA 125 La Bisbal d’Emporda. The championship win came after their scheduled opponents, Tímea Babos and Dalma Galfi, withdrew from the final. At the 2024 French Open, she entered the main draw once again alongside Anna Sisková as an alternate pairing. Their remarkable run included a significant victory over Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova before they were ultimately bested by eventual champions Katerina Siniakova and Coco Gauff in a competitive encounter.
